Space Marines Mega Force!
By now I’m sure you’re all familiar with the premise of this site. I am a mini gamer. I am very new to the entire hobby. I’m unfamiliar with the myriad of games available, or the conflicts between the companies and players. I know that there are a lot of you who have been playing mini games for over 25 years. That’s incredible! For a new player it can seem an overwhelming process to jump feet first into a game that has been running for almost 3 decades. The amount of figures, army choices, stories and fluff, as well as the past history of the players and their opinions seems infinite. I enjoy this hobby immensely, but lack the time (and sometimes the patience) for all that is involved. It is my intention to document, and to show other players, looking into the games from the outside being faced with the overwhelming prospect of joining, my attempt at getting started. From the outside as a complete noob.
To me, one of the most daunting games to get into is the Games Workshops Warhammer 40K. It’s a great game with a ton of armies and a mind numbing amount of options. But once you start looking into the options and the choices, you’ll find they have actually made it rather easy to get your foot in the door. I was lucky enough to get one of the limited release ways to get started which, in my opinion, is a fantastic option.
I received the Space Marines Mega Force in the mail last night. I am blown away by the amount of models in this set! This is the description from the Games Workshop home page:
This box set contains 33 multi-part plastic Space Marine models, including: a Space Marines Predator, a Space Marines Rhino, a Space Marines Dreadnought, 20 Tactical Space Marines, five Assault Marines, and five Space Marine Scouts. Also included are 30 25mm round bases and one 60mm round base.
I think that this, along with my Space Marines from the Black Reach box, will give me a pretty versatile army list. I think all I need now is another couple Rhinos and a drop pod or two.
Just looking at this giant box filled with figures is enough to understand how great this box is. Like most models from GW, the amount of configuration options is staggering. It’s very easy to have a unique army that is personalized to your style. Right off the bat I could see that even in the simple Rhino model, that you have a choice of building a Rhino, or the RazorBack vehicle.
Opening the box I was struck with how much you actually get. Look at all those sprues! It’s a bit overwhelming to get started, like cleaning a messy room when you’re a kid “Where do I start!”. I decided to start with the Rhino, because I haven’t modeled a vehicle yet and have been looking forward to it (I’ll post that build in a few minutes).
I would recommend this box set to anyone out there getting into the Space Marine army. It’s a great way to get started playing with everything you really need to begin. I can’t wait to finish putting everything together, so expect to see a lot more Space Marines builds on this site in the near future! Let’s see how long the whole process takes.
