A Tale of Two Predators

Posted by admin on Friday, June 25th, 2010

I painted up two Predator tanks.  The first one I built was a basic cannon with the bolter guns. The second, I decided to go all out with the twin linked Lascannons and the side Lascannons.  They turned out pretty good in my opinion.  I took my time on both of these instead of my [...]

New AT-43 Comic

Posted by admin on Thursday, May 13th, 2010

I haven’t made one in months.  I seem to have lost my Muse for drawing all together lately.  I hope I can find my spark again and get back to it.  Come to think of it, I think I owe Privateer Press some more comics as well.  I should get on that! www.at43comic.com

Sabol Army Transport

Posted by admin on Thursday, April 29th, 2010

I picked up a couple of Sabol basic troop bags.  I am VERY impressed with the quality of this product. The price for this bag was around 60 bucks and came loaded with foam.  This foam is a very ridged high quality pluck and pull foam.  You can hold a tray in one hand and [...]

First Confrontation Game

Posted by admin on Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I played my first Confrontation game tonight.  It was Lions Battlebox vs the Wolven Battlebox.  This is my first game of Confrontation, and as there are no rules experts around me, I had to plug away at it on my own.  There is an awful lot to remember (like most games I’m finding out).  The little army file that comes with the Battlebox is pretty handy in that vein.  It took a lot of the “what does this guy do” from flipping through the army book, to simply reading the one page.

Mistakes were made during the game, but it was incredibly fun.  I liked the “exploding sixes” aspect.  For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about…when you roll a six, you get a bonus die.  If that die is a six, you get another one.  Guess what happens if that one is a six.  Yep!  Another one, and so on until you stop rolling sixes.  At one point during a damage roll the Wolven Blood Thirsty Predators (who roll bonus die on 5′s and 6′s) rolled about 6 bonus damage hit points.  The Predatorss were only in combat with 3 Paladins so 3 of the hit points went to waste.  But it was still pretty cool to see that much carnage dealt with the bonus die.

Another great tactic was the Chimera’s spell to pretty much teleport a friendly unit anywhere on the board as long as they aren’t in contact with an enemy unit.  On the Lions first turn, she teleported the Paladins behind the Predators, putting them within assault range.  The Trackers from the Wolven are Scout units, which give them the ability to deploy anywhere on the board, as long as they aren’t in contact with an enemy.  Durring their deployment, they were placed behind enemy lines, directly in assault range of a Guard unit.  They eventually took out the Incarnate in charge of the Guard unit, with some more exploding Sixes.

It was a fun game.  As fun as I’d expect it to be.  It was quick to set up, and quick to learn.  The units being pre-painted really helps in the ease of getting into Confrontation.  All the figures are also a very sturdy plastic.  I am currently keeping them all in the boxes they came in, which in themselves are quite nice.

Here are some photos of the nights gaming.  Keep in mind, all of the Wolves in the pictures are from the Unit boxes.  Still Rackham Pre-Paint jobs, but a million times better then the abysmal job they did on the Battlebox for the Wolven.  Google it if you need evidence!  The Lion box turned out great, with the exception of the Archers.  They aren’t bad, but they look like they could pop right into a bad 1980′s fantasy movie staring people with bad jump suits and really big hair.  Again, the Unit boxes are much better quality.

This game almost wants as much terrain as AT-43. It’s not as much of a requirment, but it does work well. Glad you had fun with your first game.

Nice pictures, Tracy. I am unsure if the exploding sixes work quite that way. I think that the bonus dice generated by a six do not generate their own bonus dice, but I have been wrong before. Love the board! Looks really neat. I have been having fun with Confrontation myself. As long as you are having fun, that is all that matters. Cheers!

I think the bonus dice do generate their own bonus dice. Here is the rule I’m looking at:
“Roll as many bonus dice as the number of 6 that you rolled. If you obtain more 6, they give you even more bonus dice. This continues as long as you keep obtaining a 6.”

I did have fun playing. I need to get the spells and magic faith stuff down better.
Thanks for the compliment on the table. It’s taken a lot of work, but it’s better then playing on the poster!

Yup dice keep exploding so long as you get a 6. It’s one of the neatest features of the rules. Makes for some huge swings in the game.

Okies, I am glad I was mistaken. Is there not a limiting factor to the number you could apply in combat though? Could have sworn I read one online somewhere….

You can only eliminate as many models as your a.) in contaact with for melee, or b.) you have shooters, without perforating shot, for ranged.
